Heroes and demons, saints and saviours, atheists and seekers, India, despite being a secular state, harbours arguably the world’s richest heritage of spiritual and religious experience.

India’s major religion, Hinduism, is practised by approximately half of the population. It is one of the oldest extant religions. Islam is the largest minority religion. India has about 18 million Christians, and other religions include Sikhism, Buddhism, Jainism and Zoroastrianism.

Temples: There are a number of temples throughout India. There is a saying that if the measurement of the temple is perfect, then there will be perfection in the universe.

Mosques: The basic elements of a typical mosque are essentially the same worldwide.

Churches & Cathedrals: Churches in India reflect the fashions and trends of typically European ecclesiastical architecture.

Gurudwaras: Sikh temples usually have a flagpole flying a triangular flag with the Sikh insignia. The Golden Temple at Amritsar is the holiest shrine of Sikhism.
