Andhra Pradesh, one of the oldest geological formations in India, is situated on the Deccan (south) plateau. A historic land of temple and mosque, the rivers Godavari and Krishna cut their way through the plateau. With its recent foray into information technology, through the new hi-tech centre on the outskirts of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh is promoting itself as the ‘No.1 State’. A.P. is the fifth largest state in India. Bounded by Madhya Pradesh and Orissa in north, the Bay of Bengal in the east, Tamilnadu and Karnataka in the south and Maharashtra in the west.

Places to Visit
Hyderabad: Wander through the colourful bazaars, especially Land Bazaar. Centuries old Islamic moments stand alongside modern buildings.
Charminar: Hyderabad’s principal landmark, the Charminar (four towers), was built in 1591. The four columned structure stands 56m high and 30m wide. West from the Charminar is the famous Land Bazaar where you’ll find just about everything.
Mecca Masjid: One of the largest mosques in the world accommodating up to 10,000 worshippers.
Golconda Fort: This 16th century fortress is a must-see. Like many of the great forts in India, Golconda exudes a palpable sense of history.

Puttaparthi:The main ashram of Sri Sathya Sai Baba, in the south-western corner of AP at Puttaparthi. This town is most easily reached by bus from Bangalore.
Nagarjunakonda:150 km south-east of Hyderabad. Prehistoric remnants suggest that human activity began here some 200,000 years ago.The Nagarjunakonda Museum attracts many.

Visakhapattanam: This coastal city is the commercial and industrial heart of Andhra Pradesh’s isloated north-east corner, and is home to India’s largest shipbuilding yard.
Tirumala & Tirupathy: The ‘Holy Hill’ of
Tirumala in the extreme south-east of A.P. is one of the most important pilgrimage centres in India, and the Venkateshwara Temple here is claimed to be the busiest in the world. Flights from Hyderabad on Tuesday and Saturday. Tirupathy is well served by express trains.
