The land of swift-flowing, sparkling rivers and placid lakes, beflowered gardens laid out by connoisseurs of all things beautiful, temperate forests of shade and cool, valleys of emerald green, and towering snow-clad mountains is indeed ‘‘the brightest that earth ever gave." Here, the hunter and the angler, the skier and the liker will find all the sport they want. J&K is a state with wide cultural and geographical contrasts. The political violence in the Kashmir valley since the late 1980’s has discouraged most travellers from visiting the region.

Places to visit
Jammu to Srinagar: On the Jammu-Srinagar route are the hill resorts of Kud, Patuitop, and Batote.
Kashmir valley: One of the most beautiful regions of India. Among Kashmir’s greatest attractions are the Dal Lake houseboats. A visit to Kashmir, it is often said, is not complete until you have stayed on a houseboat.
Gulmarg: The large meadow of Gulmarg is 52 km south-west of Srinagar at 2730m. The name means "Meadow of Flowers" and in spring it’s just that.
